Car history:
This 1968 classic Corvette convertible is a great car. These cars are not easy to come by especially in good condition. This is a solid running, driving car that just needs to be finished. It is very fun car to drive. I have owned this car since May 2003 and it has always been garage kept since I have had it. We have made many upgrades and added new parts where needed. This car comes with almost all the parts needed to finish it.
BODY: All body panels are present, solid and straight. Original & used parts. The paint is shiny, but has some scratches. It is daily driver quality and to complete the restoration will need to be redone. The car color was originally British Green according to the data plate. There is a chip in the passenger door from a broken hinge. The hinge has been fixed. Door was like this when I bought it. The hood is new. It was also replaced before I got the car. I do have the original hood also and it will go with the car. The reason the hood was replaced was the hinge plate pulled out. This could be repaired by a good fiberglass person. All new hood release latches and lever installed. The car had a luggage rack so there are holes for it but I do not have the rack. I have many new parts that are included with the car: brand new Paragon front chrome bumper ($360); all new weather-stripping kit; new rear chrome license plate bezel ($69); new chrome side mirrors ($50 each, only drivers installed, but passenger is included also).
VACUUM SYSTEM: Heres the real sweet part of this car. The headlights and windshield wipers/wiper door are all vacuum driven on the 68 Vette. None of this was functional when I got the car. Most of the parts needed to drive the wiper door were even missing, but we have fixed all that. The car has a new actuator and all new vacuum lines under the hood and in the dash. A new relay & solenoid were installed in the dash to make all this function. This was a major undertaking. More time and dollars spent here than I can remember.
INTERIOR: Everything is pretty much finished here. I installed the rear trap doors w/ push buttons & compartments ($200+), added seat belts ($90), new center console ($75), new kick panels ($82) and new model Corvette radio with dash speaker ($200). New antenna. Headlights, turn signals, blinkers, and brake lights all work. All glass is present. Ive never removed the door panels to see if any work is needed there. Brand new sill plates ($32), rear quarter panels w/retainers ($210), & sun visors ($62). The battery is located in the trap door behind the drivers seat. It is supposed to be vented through the bottom of the car, but I have used a new OPTIMA dry cell battery instead ($90). Carpet and seats are in great condition.
MOTOR: The motor work had already been before I got the car. I have some documentation on this. This is a true big block car, but the motor is not original. I believe it is a later model 454. Coated headers are on the car. It runs and sounds excellent. It is very strong. It has a 4 speed manual transmission with a Hurst shifter. K&N breather installed ($80). I have purchased an original cable drive distributor for the tachometer ($150). It will need to be installed if you want to use it. Currently it has a later model distributor that came on the car. The only thing I am aware of that is needed under the hood is a fan shroud.
BRAKES/TIRES: This car has good disc brakes all the way around. The car has good Goodyear Eagle tires with original rally style wheels and beauty bands. I am also including a new set of beauty bands and also a set of Corvette spinners if you prefer those. Spare tire rim included (no tire). Spare tire carrier & cover are present but not mounted underneath.
CONVERTIBLE TOP: The car came with a white original style vinyl top. It is still on the car and has a hole on the drivers side. I have purchased a new Al Knoch black StayFast canvas top kit to replace it ($350). This is a canvas style top like the new model Corvettes have. This is still new in the box. I also have a new interior trim panel ($50).
OTHER AREAS: Under the hood is solid. Rear suspension had been totally redone while I have had it. Brand new rear leaf spring ($120) installed which provides a much better ride. New 7/8 sway bar kit installed ($130). Cleaned and detailed this area while it was apart. New gas tank ($220) installed. While we had the gas tank out, we reinforced the little flip across the tail from the inside as support for minor cracks in the tail. This is now very solid. April 6, 2008.
